He expanded the surgical oncology program at Kaiser Permanente San Francisco Medical Center and built the highest volume robotic Hepatopancreatobiliary surgery program in Northern California. Dr. Al-Temimi and his family have lived in the South Bay area over the past five years, and he is passionate about bringing compassionate, ethical and expert-level surgical care to our community in the Bay Area. He is privileged at Good Samaritan and El Camino hospitals and he is serving as the director of surgical oncology at Good Samaritan Hospital. Over the past year, he had performed many general and GI specialty surgical procedures including the first robotic Whipple, robotic proximal gastrectomy and robotic esophagectomy in the south bay area.
Dr. Al-Temimi’s interests are GI surgical oncology program development, robotic complex GI surgery and the management of colorectal cancer, particularly colorectal cancer liver metastasis. He is the author of more than 50 peer-reviewed publications, has presented at multiple national and regional conferences, and is always at the forefront of adopting new surgical techniques and technology. He is board-certified by the American Board of Surgery (ABS) and the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery (ABSCRS) and certified by Americas HepatoPancreatoBiliary Association (AHPBA). He is a member of many national societies including the American College of Surgeons (ACS), Americas HepatoPancreatoBiliary Association (AHPBA) and the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgery (ASCRS).

Work Experience
April 2024- Current: Director of surgical oncology at Good Samaritan Hospital in Los. Performed advanced GI surgical oncology procedures using the DaVinci Xi system as well as in laparoscopic and open fashion. Defined quality metrics of surgical oncology procedures and ensured those were met by the operating surgeons. Collaborated with medical oncology to establish GI oncology tumor board. Performed the first robotic Whipple and robotic anatomical right hepatectomy in the South Bay area.
Aug 2020- March 2024: Staff surgical oncologist and hepatopancreatobiliary surgeon at Kaiser Permanente San Francisco medical center. Performed a broad range of HPB and complex abdominal surgeries at a tertiary referral center in San Francisco. Since I joined the department of surgery, I have expanded our robotic and laparoscopic programs and currently we perform most of our Whipple procedures and major hepatectomies using the robotic platform. I established a multidisciplinary conference for colorectal cancer with liver metastases and I am directly involved in teaching of UCSF surgical residents and medical students.
May 2014-Nov 2015: Independent Contractor: Author of general surgery board questions for Truelearn.net. Contributed to developing a comprehensive general surgery question bank that helps general surgery residents in their preparation for the ABSITE and the general surgery board exam.
May 2011-May 2013: Research fellow, Division of Public Health, University of Utah, Salt Lake City, Utah. Worked on research projects about head and neck, testicular, and lung cancer under the supervision of Dr. Mia Hashibe. I worked on R03 grant to study the epidemiology of testicular cancer. I also worked on multiple head and neck cancer projects within the International Head and Neck Cancer Epidemiology (INHANCE) consortium and a project about lung cancer epidemiology in Nepal. During the two years, I learned about writing research proposals, obtaining IRB approval, creating annual reports about research progress, performing data analysis and writing research manuscripts and abstracts. I presented our research at local and national meetings and conferences.
Aug 2010- Jan 2011: Graduate Teaching Assistant, Division of Public Health University of Utah, Salt Lake City, Utah. Curriculum development and co-teaching of biostatistics course for PhD students with Dr. James VanDerslice.
